We want to inform our patients and the community about an important update regarding Saxenda® (liraglutide injection).
The manufacturer has announced that the production and commercial availability of Saxenda® will be discontinued as of March 2026. It is important to note that this decision is not due to any safety or quality concerns with the medication.
Upcoming Shortage Expected
In addition to the planned discontinuation, a shortage of Saxenda® is anticipated in Canada starting as early as October 2025 or sooner. While patients can currently continue their treatment and fill existing prescriptions, it’s important to begin planning for an alternative weight management option as supplies may become limited.
What Patients Should Do
If you are currently using Saxenda®:
- Do not stop your medication abruptly.
- Speak with your healthcare provider or pharmacist as soon as possible to explore alternative options.
- Proactive planning can help ensure a smooth transition and avoid any disruptions in your weight management program.
