Ontario Pharmacists are able to assess and provide treatment for 20 different medical conditions classified as “minor ailments”. These are short-term issues that don’t require lab tests and can be treated with minimal intervention.

Our Pharmacists can evaluate your symptoms and provide a prescription or other treatments to help reduce or prevent them from recurring. if necessary, they can also refer you to a doctor, primary care provider or emergency facility.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common occurrence, particularly among women. Bacteria is the culprit behind the inflammation and irritation of the bladder and urethra lining. Please note that we currently can only assess female patients.

Pink eye

Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is an inflammation and irritation of the eye caused by allergies, viruses, or bacteria. The most effective treatment for this condition depends on the underlying cause.

Cold sores

Cold sores, which can be painful and cause unsightly sores on your lips and around your nose, are caused by viruses that remain dormant until triggered by factors such as stress.

Oral thrush

Oral thrush is an infection in the mouth that is caused by a yeast called candida that produces a thick, white coating on the tongue, the inside of the cheeks and lips, or gums.

Eczema and skin rashes

If you are suffering from a skin rash, such as eczema or contact dermatitis (caused by poison ivy or other sources), our pharmacists can help you manage it.

Heartburn

If you experience heartburn due to stomach acid flowing back up into the esophagus, our pharmacists can help. This condition is known as gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Insect bites and hives

If you have itchy bumps on your skin caused by insect bites, known as hives, your pharmacist can help you find relief from the discomfort.

Tick bites

A tick bite can transmit bacteria that cause Lyme Disease, which can be serious. Your pharmacist can help you to prevent it.

Hemorrhoids

It is estimated that around half of Canadians will suffer from hemorrhoids by the age of 50. This condition is caused by swollen and inflamed veins, and there are medications available to help reduce the discomfort associated with it.

Painful menstruation

Menstrual cramps, also known as dysmenorrhea, can be so severe that it affects your quality of life. Fortunately, there are both medications and non-medicated strategies that can help alleviate the pain.

Nasal allergies

If you suffer from hay fever, the bothersome symptoms of sneezing, itchy eyes, a runny and itchy nose, and congestion can be controlled with our help.

Sprains and strains

Sprains are caused by a stretching or tearing of the ligament that connects two bones, while strains are due to the pulling or tearing of muscle fibers, such as in the leg.

Impetigo

Impetigo is a contagious skin infection that is most common in infants and children, and is characterized by red, itchy sores that usually appear on the face.

Acne

Acne typically starts during puberty when the skin becomes oilier. If left unaddressed, it can progress to severe acne, potentially resulting in scarring.

Canker sores

Canker sores manifest inside the cheeks or lips, on the tongue’s side, on the soft palate, or the mouth’s floor, and typically persist for approximately 7-10 days.

Pinworms

Pinworms, also referred to as threadworms, are parasitic organisms that can induce itching in the anal region. Pinworm infections are most prevalent among children aged 5 to 14 years.

Yeast infection

Vaginal yeast infections are a prevalent source of discomfort. Common signs of such an infection involve sensations of itchiness, irritation, and a burning sensation in the vaginal region.

Diaper Dermatitis

Irritant diaper rashes, which result from infrequent diaper changes or the use of harsh detergents, typically do not impact skin folds. However, those triggered by yeast infections can affect skin folds.

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy

Nausea and vomiting, often referred to as “morning sickness,” are experienced by approximately 60-80% of pregnancies. This condition is more frequent during the early stages of pregnancy and typically resolves by the 20th week.

Covid-19 Anti-viral Paxlovid

Paxlovid is an antiviral medication developed by Pfizer to treat COVID-19. It has received Emergency Use Authorization from health authorities and is designed to inhibit the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, potentially reducing the severity of symptoms and the risk of hospitalization in individuals with mild to moderate cases of COVID-19
