Calluses and Corns: What You Need to Know
Calluses and corns are areas of thickened, hardened skin that develop in response to repeated friction or pressure. Calluses typically form on the soles of the feet or palms of the hands, while corns are smaller and often appear on or between the toes. Both can cause discomfort or pain, especially with prolonged standing or walking.
If you’re in the Ottawa or Orleans area and dealing with calluses or corns, Centrum Pharmacy can help — no doctor’s appointment required.
How a Centrum Pharmacist Can Help
As of July 2026, under Ontario’s expanded Minor Ailments Prescribing Program, pharmacists are are authorized to assess and treat calluses and corns in eligible patients.
At Centrum Pharmacy, our pharmacists can:
- Assess the affected area and confirm the condition.
- Recommend or prescribe appropriate treatments, including salicylic acid preparations.
- Advise on protective padding, proper footwear, and pressure relief.
- Provide guidance on safe at-home care and when to follow up.
- Advise you when to seek further medical care if necessary.
